Bobby and the Monsters
Author: Marie Blair
Genre: Children’s book
Publishers: Not known
Plot Summary:
‘Bobby and the Monsters’ is a children’s book that narrates the story of a young boy, Bobby, who is in a dilemma; sleep eludes him, for the monsters in his dreams get the better of him. But his encounter with each of them is what scares him the most. The mother, then, comes to his rescue as she explains how none of the monsters means no harm. They are impish and like to trouble others.
Area A: Text
The text has been organized in simple but rhyming sentences. ‘Rhyming Words’ has been chosen as the literary tool and it will definitely cater to the interest of the little children. The book is too short to draw out the essence of the story. Neither Bobby nor his mother has been described well. Even the three monsters have a single dialog box for their description. Elementary words play a vital role in the book and they will cater to the small children who are still learning the language.
Area B: Illustrations
The cover of the book neatly presents the main conflict of the plot. The illustrations are beautiful.
I wish the story was a little longer and dialogues shorter as the kids will take time to assimilate the description of each monster.
Best wishes to the author.
