Our life is shaped by our mind, for we become what we think. Knowing that the mind is the most powerful organ, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that it exercises control over all other voluntary and involuntary functions of the body. Hence, it is imperative that the mind is healthy and capable of making the right choices. Everyday Mindfulness is a quick approach to attaining that mindfulness using eight different strategies that can help cope with stress, anxiety, pressure and physical inability.
Did you know that it is believed that there are 108 steps between human awareness and the divine truth? That’s the reason why mindfulness is practised for 108 days to reach the level of mastery. In this book, one might find it quite interesting to note that the author has segregated the strategies under different headings like physical, emotional, rational, spiritual, occupation and network. These small steps will enable one to connect with oneself on a deeper level. To attain mindfulness, it is imperative to understand the needs of our body and cater to holistic development by indulging in activities that provide relief from everyday stress. The second step is to connect with our heart and soul. The soul is like a small brook that nourishes the forest (body). Hence, we need to understand our emotions well and thereby, understand the rationality of our actions too. How beautifully all this is connected! The author further makes an attempt to guide s about maintaining the work-life balance and connect with the spiritual self and awaken the dormant conscience that will eventually help us in the process of attaining peace.
Everyday Mindfulness is a treasure house of wisdom. The best part is that it is not only practical but also logical. The author’s anecdotes and references further add to the legitimacy of the suggestions. Overall, I am glad I got to read this book, for mindfulness was never so simple. Brilliant work!
