On a Journey of Life
Author (s): Kajal Rai & Nivedita Karmaran
Publisher: Self-published
Rating: 3.5/4
On a Journey of Life has two short stories to cater to the emotional side of the readers. Written with absolute genuity, both the stories speak about courage and choices. With characters that are just like you and me and a setting so alluring that it urges you to be a part of the story, the authors have done a wonderful job with the characters.
The first story is about a young girl who struggles to come to grips with the fact that her mother is no more. Inspired by P.S. I Love You (or so I think), Saanchi, the protagonist, finds solace in her late mother’s personal diary that takes her down the memory lane. Right from the choices to the mistakes that her mother once made, the contents of the diary bring about a transformation in Saanchi for good. I liked the flow of this story and give full marks to the execution of such a sensitive plot.
The second story is more inclined towards love under bizarre circumstances and the society’s disapproval of the same. Caught in a whirlpool of emotions, Rashi and Lalit battle within the invisible boundaries of the society. It is said when the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful and both the protagonists, in both the stories, prove this adage right.
I liked the first story more, for it had the element of nostalgia and sympathy. The second one could have been better in terms of narration and taut plot.
Best wishes to the authors!
