Even though I am not a huge fan of horror movies, I can tolerate the same jumpscares when it comes to reading such stories. Hence, The Book of Indian Ghosts caught my attention immediately after its release. Putting together the stories of 84 ghosts or otherworldly beings, this book elaborates upon their origin, existence, the belief associated with them and the characteristic features that can help us identify these ghosts.
Well-researched and well-documented, the narratives are short and crisp. It is interesting to note that many stories have originated because of hearsay more than factual data. It is also interesting to note that several ghosts had a vulnerable and troubled life on Earth and that’s why they might be lingering around in the hope of finding closure. Each ghost has a story and belongs to a specific tribe, community or sub-community.
Overall, The Book of Indian Ghosts is an interesting collection of stories from all across the Indian subcontinent. I would like to specially compliment the presentation and layout of this book. It’s quick to read and definitely a treat for the mind. The only thing that I missed were the startling revelations/ reasons that could add to the horror.
