The Shadow on the Wall
Author: Ruskin Bond
Publisher: Aleph Book Company
Rating: 4/5
Ruskin Bond might not be my favourite author yet I cannot deny the feeling of joy and contentment that I get when I read his stories. They are written straight from the heart. The vivid imagery and use of literary devices make the reading experience enjoyable. The Shadow on the Wall is another collection of short stories (this time, the stories reek of mystery, thrill and hair-raising encounters) that showcase the sheer brilliance of Sir Bond with words!
The Shadow on the Wall talks about shadows in the form of doppelgangers, strange neighbours, shady passersby and spirits that lurk in the dark. The narrative is catchy and keeps you hooked to the seat. This selection is a pleasure for Sir Bond’s fans and a good place to start if you are new to him. The stories range from eerie encounters with the shape-shifting beings that migrate from one body to another as per their convenience and the bad spirits who are keen on exercising the same old ill-intentioned voodoo!
Overall, it’s a fun collection. Since I had not read any of Sir Bond’s horror fiction before, this was refreshing! For those who have already been reading his work, some of the stories might feel repetitive.
