The Sinners

I believe that love and lust are like parallel roads. While one road leads to a peaceful and harmonious relationship, the other leads to a dead loss. ‘The Sinners’ is a tale of love, lust, gluttony and betrayal. Revolving around the vicissitudes of corporate life, the story traces the journey of several characters- the life of whom depends on the choices they make. Highlighting the repercussions of materialistic pleasures, this story offers genuine moments of thrill and suspense.
The story begins with a death in a penthouse. The entire plot focuses on untying the knots of this mystery- whether Vikram Obrai is murdered or did he commit suicide? The action plan of the story is all about how various characters come together under the suspicion and eventually, the least expected happens. Ulterior motives and labyrinthine twists and turns make the story a complete potboiler. However, I did not enjoy the language; it was quite redundant and coarse. For instance, the author used the idiom ‘heart skips a beat’ umpteen number of times. Hence, the lack of research was evident.
Nevertheless, the taste of mystery was just enough to make the story pass the muster. A brush-up of the vocabulary would have helped though.
Overall, ‘The Sinners’ is all about the blandishment and the decoy that happens when money is involved. Lives are put at risk and people find solace in adultery, revenge and forgery. A story that is a subtle allegory of the modern-age lifestyle!
Best wishes to the author!
