Wildcard 3
Author: Asfiya Rahman
Publisher: Hal Baked Beans
Rating: 3.5/5
Reading this book reminded me of an old saying- ‘If we were meant to stay in one place, we would have roots instead of legs’. Unlike other species, man has the gift of will that serves as a driving force and helps the man to keep going even when there are adversities. Wildcard series is based on this will to go on. Each part of this series has a protagonist who knows how to snatch success from the jaws of death. Now that the third part is out, it wouldn’t take rocket science to figure out that that the story will be an inspiring one.
Wildcard 3 begins ten years later. Roshni has now grown up to be an independent, intelligent and confident girl. Though still her legs refuse to listen to her beck and call, her will is unbeatable. She looks upto her father and decides to give herself another shot. Knowing fairly well that her life is not a bed of roses, she still embarks on a quest to find the identity that will eventually satisfy her soul. Together with her father’s genuine support, Tahira’s efforts and Vikram’s suggestions, Roshni sets out to prove herself, thereby not only making her father proud but also helping him live the dream that he and Riya had seen together.
Nostalgic, heart-wrenching and genuine, Wildcard 3 provides an overwhelming experience. The characters have been etched out with such perfection! Even though this is the third part, it didn’t feel like one. How I now wish to go back and the first two parts again! However, editing remains a problem in this one too. Misplaced commas and incomplete quotation marks irked me a little. Nevertheless, I couldn’t help but admire the author’s prowess to abstain from leaving the door ajar at the end of each part. Mostly, that’s how series work. But wildcard is definitely a wildcard entry into the category of a novella sequence.
Best wishes to the author!
