Knowing that our thoughts are the seeds that we plant and our mind is the garden, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that our mind is capable of producing weeds as well as herbs and shrubs. Our mind is our strongest muscle yet our worst enemy. To Skies and Waters reflects the truth in this adage very well. The story revolves around the life of a young, dynamic girl, Aveera, who cherishes each and every moment of her life only to fall into the clutches of mental anxiety after a fatal accident.
Loneliness and desire are just imposters who can force any individual to think in the negative direction. When Aveera’s fate leaves her at the crossroads of understanding the dynamics of true love, she fights tooth and nail to overcome the battle between her mind and her heart. Even though she has good old memories of the past, there is something amiss. Her mind throws a monkey wrench into the machinery of her heart and that’s why she gets stuck in a moment, the one where she lost her love and got caught in a whirlpool of questions. Her love interest, Aryan, doesn’t show up when she is in the hospital and that prevents Aveera from moving on. The story pans around what happens after Aveera confronts her darkest fears.
A sober and interesting cover, an alluding title and imperative themes form the ‘good points’ of this story. The reason why I did deduct some stars is that I have come across a similar plot just very recently. Also, the flat narrative didn’t quite live up to my expectations. Nevertheless, the author deftly touches upon the power of the mind, the aftermath of being put into the abyss and the support and love that one seeks at all points in life. Overall, To Skies and Waters is a nice, comfortable read owing to its pace and climax.
Best wishes to the author!
