Empathy is the need of the hour because we don’t care about the aftermath of our actions. Hence, Blue Sky, White Cloud states the obvious yet the untertoned narrative pinches more than convey anything directly. It’s heart wrenching to read about a young elephant calf who is born to become formidable and make way for his survival, fighting tooth and nail (quite literally) to have a peaceful existence. It’s even more distressing to see a leopard voice out the sorrows and feel helpless. Much like humans, the animals, too, are shown to have emotions that are bottled up till the heart decides to make a move.

While this book houses three emotional stories, the overall impact of each one of them leaves you guilty and in a mood for retrospection. Blue Sky, White Cloud, the titular story, is about two tagged birds who take a biologist on an adventure into the lush green forests of the Himalayas. It’s interesting to see how intelligently these little creatures safeguard their homes yet humans leave no stone unturned in digging their own grave. Simple narrative, promising plot and vivid imagery lace this work of fiction. What doesn’t quite fit well is the verbosity of description. The illustrations are alluring too.

This will be a good bet if you’re looking to delve into something true and meaningful!
