Book Review: Fearless- Stories of Amazing Women from Pakistan
Fearless-Stories of Amazing Women from Pakistan
Publisher: Penguin Publishers
Women are known for their indomitable spirit and unapologetic ambitions. When they decide to take the reigns in their hands, no power in the world can stop them from realizing their dreams. ‘Fearless’ is a collation of those wonderful stories that need to be brought out in public irrespective of their origin or religion. Inspiration can be drawn from anyone. It does not matter whether the source of inspiration is black or white or brown. The sex, caste or religion do not matter as well.
Right from Benazir Bhutto, Fatima Jinnah, Malala Yousafzai to Nighat Dad, Qandeel Baloch and Namira Salim- all these women didn’t shy away to make themselves heard. In spite of hailing from a nation that doesn’t give much exposure to its women and believes in cultural silencing of women, these brave-hearts didn’t let their voice remains in the wilderness and left an indelible mark in the fields of sports, entertainment, science, law, politics, art and cookery as well. Governed by the stereotypes, we often educate our children about how our culture (Indian culture) promotes the growth of women. In this process, we fail to mention that Pakistani women, too, are exemplary examples of women who believe in winning their own battles. This book will change our perspective and enable our children to view the people, in general, in a different light.
Crafted impressively with beautiful illustrations, Fearless is a bold attempt at bringing forth the unheard stories. Each woman has been carefully chosen according to the timeline between 1943 and 2018. The language is intriguing. Using short and crisp sentences, the authors do a wonderful job in ensuring that the content is not boring.
Overall, this book is a must-have for all parents as it is an effort (according to me) to look beyond borders and recognize the people for their talent than the factors that divide us all.
Best wishes to the authors!
