#Review: Shut Eye by Abhinav Bhatnagar
Shut Eye Author: Abhinav Bhatnagar Publisher: Blue Hill Publications Rating: 3.5/5
Interspersed with layered action sequences, Shut Eye is an action-adventure that is sure to take the readers on a rollercoaster ride. When Aadil sets out to restart his life after having left his diabolical past behind, he’s in for a shock because the memories come back, haunting him even during the day. He cannot argue the toss and ends up embarking on a dangerous and unpremeditated journey that promises setbacks and pitfalls.
Shut Eye throws two choices before the protagonist- one, to continue living in oblivion as any action would call for a disaster and two, to weather the storm even if it means sailing without sails. As Aadil gets his friend, Umesh, onboard, both of them are faced with harsh truths related to political conspiracies and corrupt money launderers. In his quest to search for his missing family, he uncovers the truth that should have been left under the wraps. There are goons, there is drama, there is loss and there is a lot of action. One can expect interesting twists, hairy danger, and good old-fashioned gunplay.
The narrative of Shut Eye is simple yet the switch between present simple and past simple tenses makes the text equivocal. Another round of proofreading would have done wonders. The title’s placement is ambiguous because of its actual meaning and the correct usage. But that’s me, just nitpicking flaws. Shut Eye is a deliciously ingenious story that is brimming with secrets, scandal and smear campaigns.
As a debutant author, Abhinav has definitely proved that his creative ability to construct a world with imaginative characters can easily pass the muster.
Best wishes to the author!
