#Review: My Little Book of Dashavatara and My Little Book of Onam

My Little Book of Dashavatara and My Little Book of Onam
Publisher: Penguinsters

Some books do more than tell stories; they open up entire worlds for little readers.

These two delightful board books from Penguin Random House India — My Little Book of Dashavatara and My Little Book of Onam — have been wonderful additions to my child’s library.

What I particularly love is how they introduce children to Indian mythology, folklore, and cultural traditions through simple, engaging storytelling. From exploring Lord Vishnu’s ten avatars to discovering the vibrant celebrations, customs, and traditions of Onam, both books make learning feel like an adventure rather than a lesson.

The sturdy board-book format is perfect for little hands, while the colourful, expressive illustrations bring every page to life. The text is age-appropriate and accessible, making these lovely books for shared reading, curious questions, and those little conversations that make storytime special.

I also appreciate how they create opportunities to introduce children to our cultural heritage from an early age, without overwhelming them with complicated narratives.

Along with Durga, Holi, Astra Shastra, Diwali, and Gana Bajana, these books have made this collection one of the best additions to my child’s library of Indian mythology and culture.

Because some stories deserve to be passed down, one little reader at a time.
