#Review: The Day I Crossed the Ramganga by Siddhesh Gautam

The Day I Crossed the Ramganga
Author and Illustrator: Siddhesh Gautam
Publisher: Penguinsters

The Hook Book series by Penguinsters is fast becoming one of my favourite additions to my daughter’s bookshelf, and The Day I Crossed the Ramganga is another wonderful reason why.

What I love most about these books is how effortlessly they introduce young children to the world of reading. The sentence constructions are simple enough for my daughter to make sense of some of them while I explain the rest. The vivid illustrations help her visualise the story, making reading a truly interactive experience. And the best part? These stories are short and simple, yet have a strong hook that keeps little readers engaged!

Set in Thal, amidst the mountains, the story follows a six-year-old boy who believes he is no longer a little child now that he has entered Class One. Eager to visit his father’s office, he finds himself facing a rather daunting bridge over the mighty Ramganga. The descriptions and comparisons are wonderfully visual, making the bridge appear both fragile and intimidating.

What makes the story particularly engaging is the mention of young Bhim, whose identity leaves readers curious until the end. The boy’s small adventure becomes a meaningful journey towards independence, responsibility and courage, showing children how even little decisions can help them grow.

A charming story, beautiful illustrations and a lovely message make this book a wonderful addition to my Hook Book collection. Highly recommended for young readers taking their first steps into the magical world of books!
